Mom's Buttermilk Ranch Dressing & Dip Recipe

Creamy delicious herb-flecked ranch dressing with the tang of buttermilk and zing of garlic is the perfect dressing thick enough to double as a dip.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup buttermilk full-fat is best
  • 1 Tbsp minced onion
  • 1 Tbsp minced parsley
  • 1 Tbsp minced chives
  • 1/4 tsp celery salt
  • 1-2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp minced chervil can substitute dill or tarragon
  • 1/2 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper or to taste

Instructions

  • Combine all of the ingredients in a mason jar, put the lid on and shake until completely combined. Alternatively, put the ingredients into a bowl and whisk until combined.
  • Refrigerate at least four hours, preferably overnight, for the flavors to combine.
  • The dressing will thicken. If you'd like to thin it out, add more buttermilk or even plain milk until it reaches the desired consistency.

Notes

FRESH HERBS ARE BEST.  That being said, and in the dead of winter I've also wavered, dry herbs can be used in this recipe.  For each fresh herb you need to substitute with dry, change fresh TBSP to dry teaspoon.  The dairy, celery salt, salt and pepper stay the same.
